What does your company do? What do you do, specialize in or excel at? What makes your service or product special?

I coach nurses, nursing students, and nurse educators. Nurse coaching is unique because the process focuses on excavating deeper goals and desires. The holistic approach combines evidence-based practice (based on research) with awareness practices. Awareness Practices help clients to connect with their inner wisdom and discover their own solutions. I rarely give advice unless people ask for it. I do have 18+ years of experience as a nurse, and I teach as a professor in both graduate (Masters and Doctorate) and undergraduate programs (BSN) and do have plenty of advice but only if needed.

What inspired you to create your business and how do you motivate yourself when things become difficult?

When I was only in my early twenties and as a new graduate nurse, I quickly burned out of bedside nursing. I was overweight, in a bad relationship, vitamin D deficient, and deeply unhappy. I wondered where I could have gone wrong when nursing seemed like such a promising profession. I decided to use nursing to help myself instead of letting it hurt me. I used the nursing process to heal my depression, end a bad relationship, lose 30 pounds (and keep it off for 10 years) cut toxic ties, set boundaries, and ultimately achieve some BIG dreams. Now I want to help other nurses do the same.

Name a book that you read recently that had an impact on you.

Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo. This book inspired me to check out nurse coaching certificate programs while reading it. On a Friday I Googled programs and the one I wanted was beginning on Monday. I immediately signed up! Now I am also in B-school with Marie Forleo.

Comparing your business from when you started to now, what has been the main thing that allowed you to grow

I am just starting on this journey but it is already helping me grow personally. It is challenging to start a business while working full-time, going to school, and being a Mom and caregiver. I have to really identify what is important and what I can let go of.

What should other female entrepreneurs reading this interview be focusing on to expand their business?

I think for anyone just starting out as an entrepreneur,  developing a system for staying organized is important. I am focusing on automation and templates at the moment. I am templating all of my processes for teaching classes so that I can focus more on my business.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?

Follow your inner voice that keeps telling you what it wants. Then turn that dream into an action using a SMART goal. These are goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timelined. For example, I wanted a YouTube channel for 10 years but it didn’t happen until I made a SMART goal. Initially, it was just to film with my phone for 10 minutes and post to YouTube at least every other week for a month Once I started doing that, many more actions followed and I exceeded my original goal.

Before I hired Jess, I felt overwhelmed and I lacked beautiful professional images. I googled professional branding photographers in Denver and immediately fell in love with her site.

I love that Jess does professional branding photography for women to help build confidence. Most photographers do weddings and senior pics and not much else. I really appreciated the whole process from the free guide for personal branding sessions to the coaching calls and the tailored session. I felt very special and loved how the images turned out. I also love that she didn’t make me go through all the bad images! In the past, I have had to look at every photo and the bad ones definitely make you feel bad. She had all the best images already touched up and that was worth its weight in gold.

Already, I have been able to use the images in ways I couldn’t have envisioned before the sessions. For example, the photos of me holding a blank piece of paper have been so so handy to modify in Canva for my 404 page, and other personalized sections on my website. I also am so excited that Jess got images of me wearing various wigs because I can “go blonde” without instantly making my photos out of date.

Ultimately, she really brought forth my personality, made me feel comfortable through the whole process, and invited me to where she had her own branding images done. This really built trust and I felt so taken care of during the process. Attention to detail and anticipating the images I would need were hugely beneficial. I wasn’t exactly sure what I needed but now I can see I have exactly what I need because of Jess!

I am looking forward to continuing to repurpose these images for all my personal branding needs for at least a couple of years. When I need more images, I know who to call.
